Does that apply to socks too? What about the "stretchyness" factor?

Um, I'm making my own (fire) poi from nylon cord, and I'm basically tying monkey-fists at the ends of them. Does anyone know how flammable that is?

Don't mix nylon & fire at all! The nylon will burn & you'll end up with lumps of flaming molten mylon flying everywhere. It will stick & burn horrifically. It will also give out toxic fumes
Use a natural fibre such as cotton or hemp rope - before you start making anything take a small piece & set fire to it to see what happens. This way you won't waste your time making your monkey fists out of something that will burn up in a few seconds & you can satisfy yourslef that you'll be safe.
